About Us
Creative Minds Learning Center, Inc. was founded in 1997 with the children's interests and parent's needs in mind.
Our Gateway school features the largest private play area in Southeast Portland with over a half of an acre, park-like setting for the children to play sports, games and enjoy our new playground equipment with their teachers. We offer a children's garden as an opportunity to explore science skills at both schools. We offer field trips to educational places such as the Oregon Zoo, Omsi and Children's Museum to bring our classroom to the world around us. Fresh and healthy meals and snacks are offered during the day. We have a state of the art video surveillance system throughout our schools and coded entry systems for our families.
We are located in the Gateway District of Portland at: 334 S.E. 146th Avenue, Portland, OR 97233 and Woodstock area at: 7103 S.E. 60th Avenue, Portland, OR 97206. We are currently building a brand new, green school located on NE 82nd and Broadway for children ages 2-5 years. We are in partnership with Innovative Housing community on this project which are the leaders in designing and building environmentally friendly communities. This school will be opening in September 2008 and we are taking reservations for the limited spaces available. Please remember, we offer Meet and Greets at scheduled times and will not allow drop ins as this is a distraction to the classrooms. We have an open door policy to all enrolled families and encourage your involvement in our community whether by reading to the children or helping in the garden. Our philosophy is to enrich children's lives with creative arts and accredited educational materials while developing self esteem, confidence and a sense of independence. We believe strongly in a program which exposes children to a creative way of learning while experiencing arts, music and dance in an educational and visual environment.We are interest based schools, which means we like to discover each child's interest in arts, music, dance, science, etc., and offer these activities in a supervised setting. 
There are many approaches and "labels" for teaching young children. Some believe that children should not begin to learn to read until the second or third grade. Others argue that children should decide what to learn and do during the day. We base our teaching style on the basis of early childhood development so we "trichotomize" the early childhood curriculum so that it is focused on at least a trio of goals: (1) social/emotional development and (2) intellectual development and (3) the acquisition of meaningful and useful academic skills. We believe children are capable and willing to learn and naturally can begin to read at Pre-Kindergarten grade. We believe it is our duty to guide the children during the day in a structured setting. The children need the security of a daily routine and come to school excited to see their friends and teachers.We give each child the tools to succeed so when they enter a more formal education later in life they have the skills needed to become whatever they want to be in life, an artist, doctor, teacher...
We balance our teaching with a beautiful program where they can be children, tending their garden, baking breads, creating visual arts, singing along to a guitar, dressing up, experiencing sensory skills and many more activities while teaching them an accredited Preschool and Kindergarten program (
