Children need whole grains, they need fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. They need a source of calcium for their growing bones. They need healthy sources of proteins, either from fish, poultry, eggs, and meat, or from plant sources. These foods give them the vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients they need to build high-quality bodies. We have designed a menu which has only the freshest fruits, vegetables (never canned or frozen) and whole grains with excellent sources of protein offered.
Parents and educators often contend that sugar and other carbohydrate
ingestion can dramatically impact children's behavior, particularly
their activity levels. We do not offer foods with white sugars.
We offer fresh cooked meals, we
use whole wheat flours and replace sugar in all of our recipes with
applesauce, orange juice or honey (we do not keep white sugars in
our schools). We do not offer processed meats, red meats or peanut
butter in our schools. We serve turkey, home made hummus dips and
other delicious and healthy sources of proteins.
We offer organic milk (antibiotic and hormone free) in our schools
. We offer 100% juice products of apple, orange or grape (never
powdered).
